Smile makeovers, planned digitally first

A smile makeover combines one or more treatments, such as whitening, aligners, veneers, crowns or implants, planned together around your goals. Digital Smile Design helps your dentist plan treatment with you. Any digital mock-up is a planning aid, not a prediction of your result.

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover is a plan that combines treatments, such as whitening, aligners, bonding, veneers or crowns, to improve how your smile looks. It is planned around your teeth, gums, bite and what you want.

  • you would like to change the colour, shape or position of several teeth

  • you have realistic expectations and time for a staged plan

Worth knowing first

  • Some treatments, like veneers, are permanent.
  • Gum disease and decay are treated first.

Pre-visit checklist

Recovery and aftercare

The first few days

  • Recovery depends on which treatments you have. We’ll give you advice for each one.

Looking after it long term

  • Brush and clean between your teeth every day.
  • Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.
  • Keep up regular check-ups to look after the work.

Read our aftercare guides

When to call us: ring (08) 9330 7115 if you have pain, a sore spot, sensitivity that isn’t settling, or anything else that worries you.

Risks to know about

Every treatment has some risks. Your dentist will talk you through the ones that apply to you.

  • Each treatment has its own risks, such as sensitivity or chipping.
  • Enamel removal for veneers or crowns is permanent.
  • The result may differ from the preview.
  • Maintenance: some work will need repair or replacement over time.

Ways risk is lowered: careful planning, a preview, starting with conservative options and regular reviews.

Other options

One treatment at a time

For example whitening only.

Conservative options first

Bonding or aligners before veneers or crowns.

Cost and paying

What affects the cost

  • the number and type of treatments
  • materials
  • planning and previews
  • how many visits

We can’t give an exact price before we examine you. You’ll get a written, itemised plan and estimate before any treatment starts. Health fund rebates depend on your fund and level of cover.

Paying for a smile makeover

  • Estimate first. For planned treatment you get a written estimate with item numbers before you start.
  • Claim on the day. Bring your health fund card. We claim on the spot with Tyro, so you pay only the gap.
  • Check your cover. Use the health fund checker to see which item numbers to ask your fund about.
  • Ways to pay. EFTPOS and card, including tap and pay. Payment plans are available through Tyro and are tailored to each patient. Ask us about eligibility, terms and any fees before you start. Fees and payments
